Morning Update: 12-22-21


Palindrome date, here we go.

I'm rethinking my decision to wait until after the holidays and new years to start working on this again. Turns out, I'm jazzed up by the release, and want to get more out, sooner. So here's what I'm going to be working on starting the moment I'm done posting this update:


TLC to Existing Content:

-Better looking UI: I know I said this was going to come with the Chapter 1 update, but script and renders took priority. Since I have the first major release out now, I can slow down a bit, and give some love to the window dressing.

-Updating the character models: I started on this with Carmina, and decided I wanted to give the other girls some attention, too. First, I'm going to fix Carmina's every-day and work outfits. Expect a completely different style for our lovely Puerto Rican's business threads.

-Script Fattening: While I was playing through the first chapter, doing my spellcheck/debugging pass, there were a few segments that felt a little forced, and/or rushed. This was completely unintentional on my part. That's something that's a bit shitty when writing a VN script, at least for me; something will look meaty and good in the game script file, but when it comes to experiencing it in-game, the flow seems completely different. Because of this, I made a note of such scenes, and will be revisiting the script in those places. this will go beyond a simple spelling/grammar pass. It will be complete dialogue additions and expansions. These expansions will hopefully not feel like needless bloat to extend play time. Instead, my aim is to make the scenes come across as more authentic and interesting.

-More renders: In addition to script extensions, I will be adding more renders to scenes. This will include more shots to scenes with unique renders presented, and replacing select "stock" scenes with unique renders. Depending on how this goes with both the production pipeline and player feedback, I might just do this for the whole game. Time will tell.

-Rebuilt stock renders: "Stock" scenes, such as shots of the MC's apartment, will get another rendering pass to get rid of graininess. I will also be playing with the lighting a bit, to get better and more interesting looking backdrops. I played with lights a little bit in scenes with Morrigan's room, and a specific shot with Carmina that I'm quite fond of. Not going to spoil it, I'm sure you'll figure it out if you play the Chapter 1 update. Since I first started working with the rendering software, I've learned a lot about lighting and framing. I'm going to be putting these things to extensive use from here on out, even if it means revisiting old content to make the whole thing better.


NEW Content:

Of course, I will be extending the script and adding new scenes as I go along as well. So, with each update, I will also be adding new bits to the continuing story, and you will get to watch Chapter 2 begin to unfold starting as soon as the very next update. Things will really start to get interesting in Chapter 2, which will be full of intrigue, action, and sex. You will learn more about Oriana Takamitsu and Philip Stadler, as well as a mysterious new actor.
